Call to Worship
"Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth;
     sing the glory of his name;
     give to him glorious praise.
All the earth worships you;
     they sing praises to you,
     sing praises to your name."
— Psalm 66:1-2,4

Worship Through Giving
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” — Matthew 6: 19-20

OT Reading – Isaiah 11:1-9
11 "There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse,
    and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.
2 And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him,
    the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
    the Spirit of counsel and might,
    the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.
3 And his delight shall be in the fear of the Lord.
He shall not judge by what his eyes see,
    or decide disputes by what his ears hear,
4 but with righteousness he shall judge the poor,
    and decide with equity for the meek of the earth;
and he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth,
    and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked.
5 Righteousness shall be the belt of his waist,
    and faithfulness the belt of his loins.
6 The wolf shall dwell with the lamb,
    and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat,
and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together;
    and a little child shall lead them.
7 The cow and the bear shall graze;
    their young shall lie down together;
    and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
8 The nursing child shall play over the hole of the cobra,
    and the weaned child shall put his hand on the adder's den.
9 They shall not hurt or destroy
    in all my holy mountain;
for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord
    as the waters cover the sea."

Prayer of Confession
"No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord." — Romans 8: 39

Assurance of Pardon
"The LORD is merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
As a father has compassion for his children,
so the LORD has compassion for those who fear him.
For he knows how we were made;
he remembers that we are dust.
But the steadfast love of the LORD is from
everlasting to everlasting
on those who fear him,
and his righteousness to children’s children,
to those who keep his covenant
and remember to do his commandments."
— Psalm 103:8,13-14,17-18

Call to Confession

“19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. 21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”
—John 3:19-20

Assurance of Pardon
“16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned.” – John 3:16-18

  1. The love of the Father leads to salvation. (16-17)
  2. The love of the world leads to condemnation. (18-21)

Thoughts from the Saints
“Christ's death is the Christian's life. Christ's cross is the Christian's title to heaven. It is true that we are sinners--but Christ has suffered for us. It is true that we deserve death--but Christ has died for us. It is true that we are guilty debtors--but Christ has paid our debts with His own blood. This is the real Gospel! This is the good news! On this let us lean while we live. To this let us cling when we die. Christ has been 'lifted up' on the cross, and has thrown open the gates of heaven to all believers.” – Bishop J.C. Ryle

Today, Cozanne Marsh’s baptism! 12:30pm
Call to Worship
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
2     Serve the Lord with gladness!
    Come into his presence with singing!

3 Know that the Lord, he is God!
    It is he who made us, and we are his;
    we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

-          Psalm 100:1-2
Old Testament Reading – Isaiah 52:13-53:6
13 Behold, my servant shall act wisely;
    he shall be high and lifted up,
    and shall be exalted.
14 As many were astonished at you--
    his appearance was so marred, beyond human semblance,
    and his form beyond that of the children of mankind--
15 so shall he sprinkle many nations.
    Kings shall shut their mouths because of him,
for that which has not been told them they see,
    and that which they have not heard they understand.
53 Who has believed what he has heard from us?
    And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
2 For he grew up before him like a young plant,
    and like a root out of dry ground;
he had no form or majesty that we should look at him,
    and no beauty that we should desire him.
3 He was despised and rejected by men,
    a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;
and as one from whom men hide their faces
    he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

4 Surely he has borne our griefs
    and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
    smitten by God, and afflicted.
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions;
    he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
    and with his wounds we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray;
    we have turned—every one—to his own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
    the iniquity of us all.

Call to Confession:
Seek the Lord while he may be found,
call upon him while he is near;
let the wicked forsake their way,
and the unrighteous their thoughts;
let them return to the Lord, that he may have mercy on them,
and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

Trusting ourselves to the grace of God,
let us confess our sins before God and one another.

—based on Isaiah 55: 6-7
Assurance of Pardon:
“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” – Romans 8:1

God’s Greatest Solution – John 3:7-15 – Taylor Callen
  1. The Spirit saves the helpless. (7-13)
  2. Jesus saves the wicked Point. (14-15)

Thoughts from the Saints
“We believe that the scriptures teach that in order to be saved, sinners must be born again; that the new birth is a new creation in Christ Jesus. It is instant and not a process. In the new birth the one who is dead in sin, is given spiritual life and receives eternal life as the free gift of God. The new birth is brought about in a method beyond our comprehension, not by culture, not by character, not by the power of man, but completely and exclusively by the power of the Holy Spirit in connection with the Word of God. The evidence of this new life is seen by a demonstration of faith and repentance, a changed life, and voluntary obedience to the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.” – Horicon Baptist Church, Statement of Faith

Call to Worship
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ,
the love of God the Father,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us and lead us
as we worship our Triune God!
—Based on 2 Corinthians 13:14

Worship Through Giving
Remember the words the Lord Jesus himself said:
“It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
—from Acts 20:35

OT Reading – Numbers 21:4-9
4And the people became impatient on the way. 5 And the people spoke against God and against Moses, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we loathe this worthless food.” 6 Then the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died. 7 And the people came to Moses and said, “We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord and against you. Pray to the Lord, that he take away the serpents from us.” So Moses prayed for the people. 8 And the Lord said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole, and everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live.” 9 So Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on a pole. And if a serpent bit anyone, he would look at the bronze serpent and live.

Prayer of Confession
For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law and do them.” Galatians 3:10

Assurance of Pardon
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree” – Galatians 3:13

  1. All people are wicked. (23-25)
  2. All people are hopeless. (1-4)

“I might preach to you forever. I might borrow the eloquence of Demosthenes or of Cicero, but you will not come unto Christ. I might beg of you on my knees, with tears in my eyes, and show you the horrors of hell and the joys of heaven, the sufficiency of Christ, and your own lost condition, but you would none of you come unto Christ of yourselves unless the Spirit that rested on Christ should draw you. It is true of all men in their natural condition that they will not come unto Christ.”- Charles Spurgeon

August 12, Cozanne Holly Marsh’s baptism! 12:30pm
Call to Worship
Hear the word of the Lord:
25 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. 26 And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.

Prayer
Almighty God,
We praise you on this Sabbath day for the gift of your church.
We come from different places and different backgrounds,
but this morning we worship You as one body.
We thank you for this day of rest,
and ask that you would bless us this morning.

Bless this body.
Watch over this people.
Care for Your church.
We thank you that we have members who love one another,
who are willing to take time to pray for one another.
We thank you for potlucks and Stewart’s coffee
and the many opportunities in between to get to know each other better.
We praise You that we can add another to the body with Cozanne,
Lord thank you for bringing her into our local church,
Thank you for her desire to obediently obey You in baptism.
May she be better off for joining,
and may we be more like you because of her contribution.

Lead us now as we continue to worship You in Spirit and in truth.
May our praises be an acceptable sacrifice to You.
Almighty God and loving Father, we love you and praise you,
In Your Son’s Glorious Name we pray, Amen.

Worship Through Giving
What shall I return to the LORD
for all his bounty to me?
I will give what I have promised
in the presence of all God’s people.
—from Psalm 116: 12, 14

Prayer of Confession
If we say that we have no sin,
we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins,
he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins
and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
In humility and faith let us confess our sin to God.
—based on 1 John 1: 8-9

Assurance of Pardon
15
For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear. Instead, you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father!” 16 The Spirit himself testifies together with our spirit that we are God’s children, 17 and if children, also heirs—heirs of God and coheirs with Christ. - Romans 8:15-16
